Though the previous two films have used all of the various kinds of electronic surveillance, this film is going to focus on it. We have a lot more to be paranoid about in paranoid thrillers these days!

In Paris: Bourne buys a copy of The Guardian and hops a train... where he reads Ross’ article “Who is Jason Bourne?” which includes a picture of Marie... and that triggers a flashback of Bourne and Marie from the first film, which bleeds into a flashback of Hirsch’s team “conditioning” him, which leads to a flashback of Marie’s death from the second film. There’s a great moment where Jason and Marie’s kiss from the first film is cross-cut with Jason trying to give Marie mouth-to-mouth while underwater after the car crash in the second film... and Bourne being pushed under water by Hirsch’s people. All of this connects the previous two films to this story.
